U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has argued that Washington should reconsider its military presence in Europe if NATO allies restrict American access to bases that the U.S. helps fund and operate.
Rubio previously said that some allies, including Spain, had denied U.S. access during operations against Iran, calling the situation a “problem” that “has to be examined.”
The remarks add to growing tensions between Washington and European NATO members over the Iran war, military burden-sharing, and the future of U.S. forces in Europe.
