China has emerged as a key mediator as Thailand and Cambodia work to restore relations and stabilize a fragile ceasefire after weeks of deadly border clashes.
Beijing said on Monday that the two Southeast Asian neighbors agreed to gradually consolidate the ceasefire following talks held in southwestern China.
Thailand and Cambodia halted intense fighting on Saturday, marking the second ceasefire since late October. The renewed violence had killed at least 101 people and forced more than half a million residents to flee their homes.
Officials say China’s involvement could help sustain calm and prevent further escalation along the disputed border.
